Former PM and now MP Goh Chok Tong has congratulated Malaysia’s PM-elect Mahathir and his coalition partners for the landslide election victory. (CNA)
Like PM Lee, Lau Goh keeps invoking LKY’s name as if a dead person will really get up from his grave to save the PAP.
Lau Goh: “Watching Mahathir fight Malaysian GE14 reminds me of Lee Kuan Yew who famously said, ‘Even from my sick bed, even if you are going to lower me into the grave and I feel something is going wrong, I will get up’.” he said.
It is an insult to compare Mahathir with LKY. When Mahathir became PM in 1981, “one of his first acts was to release 21 detainees held under the Internal Security Act“. (Wikipedia) LKY, on the other hand, continued to use the ISA against political opponents, the longest-serving being Chia Thye Poh.
When Mahathir left politics in 2003, he did not remain in cabinet and continue to earn millions in tax dollars. Unlike Mahathir, LKY was given a new cabinet post of Senior Minister in 1990 after he stepped down as PM.
14 years later, a new cabinet position – Minister Mentor – was created for LKY in his son’s government. In both cabinet posts, LKY was earning a PM’s salary.
It appears quite silly for Lau Goh to compare Mahathir, a man who is really sacrificing too much at age 92, with LKY, a man who only talked about getting up from the grave when he knew he really couldn’t.
