Philip Yeo: Get rid of PAP government with eunuch disease

Former top civil servant Philip Yeo has provided ‘conclusive’ evidence of PAP’s incompetence in his biography “Neither Civil Nor Servant”. (Edited excerpt here)

Unlike most of the useless scholars today, Philip was no pen pusher and had played a pivotal role in Singapore’s development.

In his autobiography, Philip was clearly displeased with the attitude of top civil servants.  For example, despite advising them to “go into the field, visit the companies and spend time with the workers” to understand the workings of the real world, “many still prefer to hold meetings and presentations”.

To Philip, these “paper shufflers” are like “eunuchs” who “don’t do any real work”.  They exist to “keep the emperor happy”.  Philip has served under emperors Lee Kuan Yew, Goh Chok Tong and Lee Hsien Loong.

Philip attributed PAP’s situation to how the leadership had evolved: scholars love to write his “grandmother’s story”.  And he did not have any patience for such “a damn idiot”.

Like Dr Goh Keng Swee, Philip did “not believe people can change“, especially after decades of concealing information from citizens, stealing CPF members’ returns, disseminating propaganda through PAP-controlled media, etc.

Since PAP ministers, MPs and top civil servants are unable to change, Singaporeans should consider heeding Philip’s advice.

  1. People can change but it’s very hard and requires support. Of not than AA would never have been successful.
On to Yeo. So basically he’d be in favour of liquidation Keppel that other company and eventually Temask. Good.
What Singaporeans needs is a reality TV show called Undercover bods. The episodrs i saw from the American and Canadian series were amazing. Songaporean bossrs especially in the govt would learn alot

  2. I forgot to mentipn that Nicholas Nassin Taleb just published a book that everyone in the govt and civil service MUST read:it’s called Skin on the game

  3. Bob Loh says:

Philip will make an invaluable MP. His experience and wisdom will surely move things and get things better done. Won’t he consider standing for election?

    • William Seah says:

Bob Loh, Philip Yeo is far above MP level, he is also above Ministers level and is a Prime Minister material. His and Professor Tommy Koh Contributions to Singapore deserved to be Future President of Singapore.

  4. C Sing Ow says:

A change is “DEFINITELY A MUST” before this country goes into financial tail spin of more unscrupulous manipulation.

  5. Choykokkee says:

He too benefitted from the same exclusive elite system. Why brought it up now and not when he was in his prime at the well spotlighted centred stage.

    • Paul Yeo says:

If Philip had brought it up earlier, will he live to tell the tales. There is no better time than now. Sincerely

      • Phillip Ang says:

Better late than never. As more pro establishment figures like Tommy Koh start speaking out against PAP, this will attract others to do likewise. This can only be good for our country.

      • Hairy says:

That’s not a fair statement to say of Philip n his then bosses! Philip was never a meek man to be too comfortable to rock his then “luxurious boat”, if indeed it was luxurious at all by his capabilities! He would have been paid much more outside! Philip was late GKS protege n late LKY’s choice for the most challenging n difficult of tasks! To the contrary, if he had been meek, he wouldn’t have survived then n not vice versa. Both bosses didn’t like “yes men”, or “eunuchs”! He rose to what he is today simply because he spoke his mind, n more importantly, he’s a doer n achiever. Give him any task n he’ll get the job done. His legacy includes being labeled “SGP’s greatest employer” by none other than LKY! Included in his legacies are, Jurong island, Jurong town, EDB, TDB, AStar, just to name a few. To sum it up, SGP’s industrialization successes in the early years were to a large extent due to his “go-getter” attitude n competence! He was good at catching “sharks” n just as good as grooming “guppies”! Those residing in Jurong have him to thank for getting an MRT station there. In less than 10 min n 20 words, that was his request to late LKY for tasking him to get Jurong town come alive. N yes! He could serve SGP best if he were to stand for election to change things. That would trump all his past achievements put together!

    • Hairy says:

What makes u think he didn’t? Moreover the system was working well then. But he saw it going off track n he brings it up. He wasn’t paid millions like today’s! He has always been very outspoken. Not reported publicly doesn’t mean he didn’t. He bought up many things. One of my favorite quotation of his, almost 30 years ago in an interview with ST…..

“SGP should reward people who break rules to get the job done. But she spends her time rewarding people who follow the rules”! If that was not speaking up, where have you been?

He has spoken up more than above! Go google!

  6. Rakesh says:

Agreed that the top bosses really don’t do much other than eloquently designed speeches for most of them. Agreed too that they are there tp please the emperor im return for much more than pieces of eight!

  7. Goⲟod day! This iѕ kond of off topic but I neеd some guidаnce from an establisheⅾ blog.
Is it tough to set up your own bⅼog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure
things oսt pretty fast. I’m thinking about setting up my
own but I’m not sure wherfe to begin. Dο you have aany points or suggestіοns?
    With thanks

  8. Norman Wee says:

Please read the history of eunuchs in china..Cheng Ho etc. A little knowledge will only make yeo a fool.

  9. Tham Swee Weng says:

Mr Philip Yeo, together with Mr Lee Hsien Yang please join the Oppositions and bring up more issues and plans.

Please save Singapore from destruction.destruction by the EviLeegime.

  11. John Yip says:

Please forward to as many people as possible. It’s NOW or NEVER.

  12. Raman says:

Philip Yeo may not be interested in politics. It is the opposition politicians like Dr Tan Cheng Bock and other leaders must try to plead and beg Philip Yeo, Hsien Yang and his sister to stand for election to save Singapore.

  13. Thomas says:

That people can change, yes, but that would be an exception to the general rule that people either can’t or won’t change. The second rule is that, if that person changes, to what extent has that change occurred. Change is exceptional rather than the rule but if that change within is borne of conviction, it is powerful and substantively effective.

  14. Erik Li says:

Philip Yeo will make a good trade and industry minister.

  15. Joseph says:

After reading your report I share the same sentiments n sincerely ask you to joined some respectable party n let all minded Singaporean to vote you into the parliament. As you say we now only have the eunuchs serving the emperor

  16. Bethel says:

There isn’t a perfect man in this world. One needs to look at himself first . One could have been as inhumane as his previous PAP masters. Who named and publicly shamed the ex scholar Hector Yee for breaking bond? Who had been the old grumpy Scrooge who frequently quarelled with other colleagues?

  17. sallandre Diana says:

I totally agree. Ex citizen of Singapore I still feel for My motherland. LKY n his government did a bloody gd job, altho ruled with an iron hand.Current PM is bringing the country to pots!!!
Bring back the Si gapire information nce grew up in and lived in. Change the system nnit can only b done by you people n citizens of Singapore.
I agree with That Swee Weng for Philip n Lee hsien Yang to form a new fresh system wz a govt who gives more to people.

  18. Chan says:

Hear from profesional will never be wrong,. MR Philip YEO confirm are the future leaders of Singapore,. We need him to really standing up, right*/center,.
It*s now or *(Never, Never, NEVER) /*understanding,. Our Dear Singaporean,. Or never, Never, Never,.,.,.

  19. Geof Chia says:

Upon the wreckage of thy yesterday,
    Design thy structure of tomorrow.
Lay strong cornerstone of purpose and prepare great block of wisdom cut from past despair.
Shape mighty pillars of resolve to set deep in tearwet mortar of regrets.
Work with patience, though thy toil be slow yet day by day the edifice shall grow.
Believe in GOD in thy own self-belief. All that thou hath hope for thou shall achieved.

  20. Dominic N S Teo says:

Don’t think he wants to get into politics and he knows well enough that he can’t break the wall even if he tried. By the way, most oppositions will try, more likely to be heard than to win a seat, knowing that eventually being voted out is the likely outcome

  21. Chia Mary says:

Yes… go Philip Yeo and Tommy Koh. Its time great and outstanding citizens like you speak up for all disc
ernining and non discerning Singaporeans.Let us not be complacent and follow whatever our govt.says. Please be our voices! Be the opposition!

  22. Time for Singaporeans to wake up. Pray and let God intervene in ways like never before. So that lesser mistakes be made This is for the sake of the future generations.

  23. Stan Yeo says:

Phillip’s comments taken out of context. Please don’t mislead Singaporeans. We should unite instead of be divided. See what is happening in USA and Hong Kong. You really think you know what Phillip’s advice is now? Economics and bringing food to the table is more important than all the latte froth that are being stirred up here. What would like for your rival company or country to have? Lots of trouble and opposition, right? Don’t be misled and be made used of. You say, time for Singaporeans to wake up. Yes, indeed. Do you know why the older generations succeeded? Time to wake up and not be instigated that you need opposition. What does opposition mean? Oppose everything. Oppose CPF, income tax, migrant workers, GST, property, having maids, opening schools, etc. In short, without thinking that this is not an ideal world and we have to make some sacrifices like our forefathers in order to get where we are today. Like what Phillip did. Would this website that gives only partial truths, dare to allow this post to be posted? Having other opinions or alternative suggestions or views does not mean it is championing opposition. So please don’t misuse the name of Phillip Yeo or Tommy Koh. It is disrespect to their names. The articles in your website is very biased and I doubt you would even allow this post to be shown to other readers. I rest my case unless this gets posted. The silent majority don’t bother to oppose some of the biased views of some of your readers. Let us all be gracious and kind so we can be a better society. Not throw brickbats at each other.

    • Phillip Ang says:

Fact: The PAP government runs our country like a corporation, milking citizens dry and after decades, everything is falling apart.
The CPF scheme is flawed and the PAP achieves nothing by concealing data such as the number of Singaporean members able to meet the MS balance in cash at 55. CPF needs a revamp and the government had known there were issues more than a decade ago. Instead of a revamp, ie reduce 60% allocated to housing and increase rate of return by allowing professional fund managers to invest transparently like Norway’s SWF, PAP continues with tweaks that CHANNEL MORE CPF AS LOANS TO THE GOVT.
Public housing policy enslaves 80% of citizens to a mortgage for 25 to 30 years, preventing CPF from earning returns to fund our retirement. Worse, land titles have not been transferred but land cost was included after 1987 in the selling price of HDB flats.
Are you still not able to see any issues?
Do you have any constructive ideas? Or should we just continue to live in an imaginary utopia, maintain the status quo and accept little transparency or no accountability from the govt?
Philip Yeo is right about civil servants turning into eunuchs, lots of paper shuffling but achieving little in the end. Civil servants today are in it for the money and align their interests with a political party, serving citizens is incidental.
What I have written may be biased to you but not to many others who have reflected on societal issues and want to see real change, not cosmetic ones.
Please don’t assume readers are not discerning. You are entitled to your negative opinion of my posts. We can agree to disagree.
      Thanks for reading. 🙂

  24. Louis Wi says:

U Stan Yeo is really a political eunuch still trying to brain wash the peoples of Singapore for another 5 years. Enough is enough so peoples of our beloved Singapore please wake up and exercise your right on voting day. Mr Philip and Mr Tommy it is still not too late to jump on the band wagon to help by going to the nomination centre with Mr Tan Cheng Bock tomorrow morning. Thank you.

    • Phillip Ang says:

Guess some people are not really cut out to be politicians. So long as they speak up in whatever capacity and help to debunk state propaganda, it should be good enough.
