MRT tunnel flooding: Minister Khaw should be exemplary, give up his 7 months’ bonus this year

Many Singaporeans are disgusted with Minister Khaw for putting the blame squarely on SMRT Bishan maintenance team after a tunnel flooded on 7 Oct.

Instead of convening a COI to get to the root of the issue, SMRT chairman Seah Moon Ming believed the problem has been fixed with the removal of a maintenance team leader and reduction of members’ bonuses.

In a functioning democracy, SMRT/LTA top management would have committed hara kiri. The transport minister may stay on but would have taken some responsibility to restore public confidence and morale of public transport workers.

Instead, taxpayers will continue to pay Khaw’s regular 7 months’ bonus as if the tunnel flooding and record number of major disruptions this year did not matter. 😦
