Singaporeans left speechless by our cock-talking education minister, Ong Ye Kung

Ong Ye Kung is making himself look like a fool again when he anyhow claims our “Education system is going through an overwhelming adjustment”. CNA

Our education system was designed to benefit PAP elites and any meaningful change will remove such benefits. If our system is based on meritocracy and not solely on academic qualifications, where would most of the jiak liao bee scholars be today? Would the children of book smart PAP elites find employment outside a non government-linked company?

There will not be any meaningful change in our education system, much less Ong’s imaginary “overwhelming adjustment”.

Ong: “Singapore’s education system is going through an “overwhelming adjustment” to prepare the young for a changing world … doing things differently from before”.

PAP is a party which has been applying last century’s solutions to today’s problems. It is a party which is resistant and least adaptable to change. How then does PAP “prepare the young for a changing world”? Talking cock right?

Ong claims that he cannot effect big changes by simply “pumping in another billion dollars” to build another polytechnic or university. Instead, Ong says the way to go is “… uncovering students’ talents, developing them to the fullest”.

Does it mean that the MOE has not been uncovering students’ talents or developing them only half way?

Of concern is Ong’s plan to restructure SIM University into the sixth autonomous university. When public institutions are restructured, it can mean only one thing – fees will be increased at a higher rate.

(Recall that after public hospitals were restructured, medical fees shot through the roof. Anyone who had gone for an operation in a public hospital in the 1980s should know the huge difference.)

The government would of course again anyhow claim that SIM Uni will be ‘corporatised as not-for-profit companies’ as they did in 2005 for NUS and NTU. But the fact is, fees have been increasing faster than the inflation rate.

According to Leong Sze Hian, tuition fees for normal courses at NTU and NUS were less than $1000 in 1987. After NUS and NTU hiked fees to $7650 in 2013, Leong asked if fees had been increasing 7.5% per annum during the last 26 years. link

Is Ong hinting at generating revenue for the government through another fee hike?

As long as PAP elites are in control, rest assured there will be no “overwhelming adjustment”.   This useless minister talking cock again must have left many speechless.

    PAP likes to play with words to bullshit the people. Not-for-profit does NOT mean cheap or even low cost. If the organization pay themselves high salaries (especially from middle mgmt upwards), big bonuses, spend lavishly on fancy renovations, gold-plated boardrooms, expensive furniture & IT systems, expensive redundant equipment, generous staff welfare benefits, etc, and then pass on the costs to consumers, you’ll discover that the costs are NOT cheap. Good examples will be our Unis and hospitals. Another good example will be HDB (although the high costs also due to charging land costs), utilities such as gas/electricity/water, HDB conservancy fees. In fact the entire civil service & the services they provide to Sinkies is NOT cheap.

    WHY “The PAP Govt is One Big Political Joke”:

    SG = Screwed-up Gabra-men [not S’pore Govt]
    BUG = Bloody Useless Govt [not influenza flu bug]
    MSG = Money-Sucking Govt [not Mono Sodium Glutamate]

    TCM = Talk-Cock Minister [not Traditional Chinese Medicine]

    MRT = More Road Tax
    ERP = Everyday Rob People

    PAP = Poor Also Pay
    PAP = “Pien Ah Pek” [Hokkien for “Bullshit the Old Folks” on no need to withdraw CPF so early]

    PAP = Pay And Pay
    PUB = Pay Until Bankrupt
    HDB = High Debt Bankrupt
    ( BLOODY Hell, HDB new/resale flats so BLOODY costly — requiring 25-year home loans to repay. No Thanks to the two BLOODY Million-dollar Ministers Mah Bow Tan & Khaw Boon Wan)
