Did motorcyclists vote for motorcycle COE price increase of 2800% since 2005?

On 1 Feb 2005, it cost only $224 for a motorcycle COE. On 5 Feb 2017, the price had increased to $6412 or about 28 times.

Did the salary of delivery drivers increase by even 2.8 times?

The last time a motorcycle COE cost below $2000 was in January 2014. Within 15 months, it had increased by $4000 to above $6000. It appears a motorcycle COE may cost more than $10000 soon.

During this economic contraction, PAP will of course be looking for easy ways to increase government revenue, eg increase water prices, car park changes, etc. Motorcycle COEs costing below $7000 may soon be history.

Would be interesting to know if motorcyclists voted to increase the cost of their COEs.

  1. sinkie says:

Sinkies deserve it. LKY & MBT fully understood the mentality of Sinkies when they came out with the COE system in the 1980s. The minimum bid is $1, but they knew that Sinkies’ selfish, self-centered, kiasu, kiasi character will turn it into a money-making machine for PAP thanks to Sinkies dog-eat-dog I-win-you-lose mentality. Instead of always just bidding $1 and waiting for the next round if you cannot get it this round, everybody & their dog kept pushing up their COE bids in order to beat the other guy. So now Sinkies shouldn’t complain as they are happily participating in the system.
