20161106 Remove politics from Stupid Table Tennis Association and all sports organisations

STTA’s Ellen may be a lawyer but to axe ITTF 5th-ranking player from the 2020 Olympics Game simply to rejuvenate the team, ie make way for younger players, is as stupid as one can get. There must have been compelling reasons for STTA to distance itself from Feng and these should be disclosed to the public by taxpayer-funded STTA.

Since 2013, Feng has been consistently ranked between 4th and 8th by ITTF. Remove the best player from a team to rejuvenate the team? Which manager does that?

PAP has done a disservice to Singapore sports by parachuting these useless politicians (below), former military personnel and own kakis into top management in sports organisations.

As to be expected, STTA has now made a U-turn and Feng will continue to participate on the ITTF World Tour circuit with the backing of the STTA and Sport Singapore. Feng will continue to be ranked and if her current ranking is maintained, STTA will have no reason to axe her from the Tokyo Olympics. Getting rid of Feng is not as easy as STTA had thought.

For PAP to rope in SportsSG to issue the joint U-turn statement, STTA and Ellen must have been an embarrassment.

Although SportsSG is not helmed by politicians like the three clowns in the photo above, it is similar to SMRT: half of SportsSG’s top management are ex paper generals/colonels.

4 highest-paying? jobs at Sports SG go to these ex military personnel:

CEO – Lim Teck Yin, BG
Dy Ceo – Chiang Hock Woon, BG
Chief Strategic Development and Marketing group – Toh Boon Yi, colonel
Chief, Active SG – Lai Chin Kwang, colonel

Any organisation with PAP’s interference is destined to fail Singaporeans, ie STTA has thrown tens of million$ to buy ‘success’ at the expense of Singaporean players.

Another clear example of PAP’s interference – and failure – in sports is the appointment of PAP MPs as president of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS).

“Here are the presidents of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) in those years:
1991-2004: Mah Bow Tan (PAP MP & Minister)
2004-2009: Ho Peng Kee (PAP MP & Minister)
2009-Present: Zainuddin Nordin (PAP MP & Mayor)”

Let’s look at the ‘achievement’ of these parachuted jokers:

In 1993, Singapore was ranked 73rd by FIFA. Last month – 23 years later – we were ranked 161st.

Aren’t Mah, Ho and Zainuddin a disgrace? Collectively, the three PAP jokers had more than 2 decades as FAS president but not only was Goal 2010** elusive, our football ranking has fallen off a cliff. Looks like PAP scored our own goal.

So long as PAP continues to politicise and control sports organisations, it will continue to score our own goal and Singapore sports will never go anywhere. Goal 2110?

**
It was the 6-distinction-2-credit Mah who “oversaw the birth of the Goal 2010 project during his 13 years at the FAS”.

  1. Dolly says:

    Totally agreed

  2. Confused says:

“Since 2013, Feng has been consistently ranked between 4th and 8th by ITTF. Remove the best player from a team to rejuvenate the team? Which manager does that?” – couldn’t agree more.

However, if the conduct and attitude of the so called top player really become intolerable, I would support the decision of STTA to sack her and distance themselves from Feng totally. But now?

“As to be expected, STTA has now made a U-turn and Feng will continue to participate on the ITTF World Tour circuit with the backing of the STTA and Sport Singapore. Feng will continue to be ranked and if her current ranking is maintained, STTA will have no reason to axe her from the Tokyo Olympics. ”

This is one of the biggest joke in 2016.

In sports, especially in a team event like football, you not only need player who can kicks well, you need player who has good vision and it is only player who has good vision can play decisive and defende splitting pass when his teammate run into a good scoring position. A good team need players of such caliber to unlock stubborn defence to create scoring opportunity that would leak to goal.

Does any of our past or present football presidents fit the bills and possess that special vision?
