20150203 HDB lessees should not pay for the maintenance of public area

Buyers of HDB flats should have already known by now that we can never become owners of any public property as has been confirmed by our agreement for lease.

The PAP legislated lessees as owners in order for us to contribute to the sinking fund to reduce the government’s long-term maintenance costs.

Besides being forced to contribute to the sinking fund, which has been abused after every election, we also contribute to the maintenance of common areas ie public areas.

In a private estate, residents living in landed properties do not have to chip in a single cent to help the government maintain public playgrounds, parks and open space. There appears to be some double standard when only HDB residents do so.

The PAP desires/exercises control over citizens through public housing but when it comes to the maintenance of public areas, it shirks its responsibility. HDB lessees have been shortchanged and fooled for decades.

The PAP has socialised every government cost and profited from Singaporeans for decades. It’s about time the PAP ceases taking citizens for a ride.
